been meaning to write this up now that ive run the truck a full season on the lease instead of just being fired up about a new rig. i hunt a high fence lease down in south texas, about four hours from the house in san angelo, and every year i haul a ranger down there on a trailer to run feeder routes and drag a tower blind around the senderos. my old half ton was tired and the frame had rust starting from a couple winters up north before i owned it, so i wanted a clean southern truck that was already sorted.
new trucks are priced like houses right now and the clean used ones near me were bringing crazy money. a guy in my hunting club told me he picked his truck up off mainstreetmotortx.com over in corsicana and drove it home with zero drama, so i started watching what they were listing.
found a 2018 F-150 XLT, the 5.0 V8, 4x4, 84k miles, one owner. their price was a good 7 grand under what the same truck with more miles was going for at the dealers near me. i have been burned on a used truck before so i figured there had to be a catch, a salvage title or something hiding under the bed liner.
called the corsicana lot. the fella who answered walked out and looked at the truck while we were on the phone. he told me straight the front pads were getting low and one of the fog lights was out, that the carfax was clean with the one owner, and it had never been wrecked. then he sent me a pile of photos and a walkaround video, and got down and showed me the frame rails so i could see there was no rust and no bondo.
here is what sold me. i could not drive four hours each way on a maybe, so i paid a guy near the lot 100 bucks to go put eyes on it and drive it. he came back saying it was just what they described, pads about half and a fog light bulb out, otherwise clean and tight.
bought it. main street did the paperwork, i drove down and picked it up, and had it home the same week the money cleared. ran it a full season on the lease now.
anybody else running a lease rig they bought off that navarro county lot? curious how theyre holding up for the rest of you.
